Somerset Interpreting & Translation Service(SITS)

Somerset Interpreting and Translation Service (SITS) is a project supported by Somerset Racial Equality Council (SREC) and through linking with other SREC projects such as Mental Health Team and Racial Inclusion Project, SITS has grown rapidly to provide a local, professional and accessible service to organisations all across Somerset. Word of mouth advertising has worked best so far and our testimonials prove that we have a long-term ongoing relationship with our clients.

Our principles for translation and interpreting

• We only use translators who either work in their mother tongue, have a degree in translating and have at least 3 years experience.

• For technical and medical translations we always source a specialist in the field.

• We aim to provide an interpreter within close proximity to the assessment venue, thus reducing travel time and providing continuity.

• We organise interpreting courses for people with language skills to widen our already well-established database and provide people with opportunities to work in the community.

• Our interpreters follow the Code of Conduct containing impartiality and confidentiality statement issued by Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI). We value our people and offer them continuous professional development opportunities to maximise their skills and knowledge. For specific projects, all interpreters will sign the confidentiality agreement forms.
